Problems on Ages question 7
The sum of the ages of a father and his son is 60 years. Six years ago, the father was five times as old as the son. What will be the son's age 6 years from now?
- 18 years
- 20 years
- 22 years
- 24 years
Answer and explanation
Answer: B. 20 years
Explanation: f + s = 60 and f − 6 = 5(s − 6), so f = 5s − 24. Then 6s − 24 = 60 gives s = 14. In 6 years the son will be 20.
