Mensuration question 29
Water flows at 5 km/h through a cylindrical pipe of internal radius 7 cm into a rectangular tank 22 m long and 14 m wide. How long will it take for the water level in the tank to rise by 1 m? (Use π = 22/7)
- 8 hours
- 40 minutes
- 4 hours
- 2 hours
Answer and explanation
Answer: C. 4 hours
Explanation: Flow per hour = π × (0.07)² × 5,000 = 22/7 × 0.0049 × 5,000 = 77 m³. Volume needed = 22 × 14 × 1 = 308 m³. Time = 308 ÷ 77 = 4 hours.
