Mixtures & Alligation question 15

A grocer mixes two kinds of dal costing ₹60 per kg and ₹75 per kg. He sells the mixture at ₹77 per kg and makes a 10% profit. In what ratio did he mix them?

  1. 2 : 1
  2. 2 : 3
  3. 1 : 2
  4. 3 : 2
Answer and explanation

Answer: C. 1 : 2

Explanation: Cost of the mixture = 77 ÷ 1.1 = ₹70 per kg. By alligation, ₹60 dal : ₹75 dal = (75 − 70) : (70 − 60) = 5 : 10 = 1 : 2.
