Pipes & Cisterns question 15
Two pipes can fill a tank in 20 minutes and 30 minutes respectively. A drain pipe removes 3 litres per minute. With all three open, the empty tank fills in 15 minutes. What is the capacity of the tank?
- 120 litres
- 90 litres
- 180 litres
- 240 litres
Answer and explanation
Answer: C. 180 litres
Explanation: Let capacity be C. Then C/20 + C/30 − 3 = C/15, which gives C × (3 + 2 − 4)/60 = 3, so C = 180 litres.
