Mixtures & Alligation question 26
Deepa lends ₹5,000 in two parts, one at 8% and the other at 12% simple interest per annum. Her total interest after one year is ₹480. How much did she lend at 8%?
- ₹2,000
- ₹3,000
- ₹2,500
- ₹3,500
Answer and explanation
Answer: B. ₹3,000
Explanation: Average rate = 480/5000 × 100 = 9.6%. By alligation, 8% part : 12% part = (12 − 9.6) : (9.6 − 8) = 2.4 : 1.6 = 3 : 2. So ₹3,000 was lent at 8%.
