Data Sufficiency question 29
Each question has two statements. Decide whether the data in the statements is sufficient to answer the question.
Question: Among five friends A, B, C, D and E, who is the heaviest?
I. A is heavier than both B and C.
II. D is heavier than A but lighter than E.
- Statement I alone is sufficient
- Statement II alone is sufficient
- Both statements together are needed
- Both statements together are not sufficient
Answer and explanation
Answer: C. Both statements together are needed
Explanation: I alone says nothing about D and E; II alone says nothing about B and C. Together E > D > A > B, C, so E is the heaviest: both are needed.
