Time, Speed & Distance · Question 22 · Medium

If a car's speed is increased by 10 km/h, it takes 1 hour less to cover 200 km. What is its original speed?

  1. 45 km/h
  2. 30 km/h
  3. 50 km/h
  4. 40 km/h
Answer and explanation

Answer: D. 40 km/h

Explanation: 200/v − 200/(v + 10) = 1 gives v² + 10v − 2,000 = 0, so v = 40 km/h (the other root is negative). Check: 5 hours vs 4 hours.
