Two trains, 150 m and 100 m long, cross each other in 10 seconds when running in opposite directions and in 50 seconds when running in the same direction. What is the speed of the faster train?
- 54 km/h
- 36 km/h
- 90 km/h
- 45 km/h
Answer and explanation
Answer: A. 54 km/h
Explanation: Sum of speeds = 250 ÷ 10 = 25 m/s; difference = 250 ÷ 50 = 5 m/s. Faster train = (25 + 5)/2 = 15 m/s = 54 km/h.
