Data Sufficiency question 7

Each question has two statements. Decide whether the data in the statements is sufficient to answer the question.
Question: What day of the week is 20 March of a certain year?
I. 1 January of that year is a Wednesday.
II. 14 March of that year is a Thursday.

  1. Statement I alone is sufficient
  2. Statement II alone is sufficient
  3. Both statements together are needed
  4. Both statements together are not sufficient
Answer and explanation

Answer: B. Statement II alone is sufficient

Explanation: From II, 20 March is 6 days after Thursday, i.e. a Wednesday. From I alone we cannot tell, because the answer depends on whether February has 28 or 29 days, which is not given.
