Syllogisms question 14
Statements:
All hammers are tools.
No tool is a toy.
Conclusions:
I. Some hammers are toys.
II. All tools are hammers.
Assuming the statements to be true, which conclusion(s) is/are possible?
- Only I is possible
- Only II is possible
- Both I and II are possible
- Neither I nor II is possible
Answer and explanation
Answer: B. Only II is possible
Explanation: Hammers lie entirely inside tools, which share nothing with toys, so hammers can never be toys: I is not possible. Tools and hammers could be exactly the same set, so 'all tools are hammers' is possible. Only II is a possibility.
