Puzzles question 23

Five friends Aditi, Bhavesh, Chitra, Dinesh and Esha live on different floors of a five-storey building (floor 1 is the lowest and floor 5 the top). Each likes a different fruit: apple, banana, guava, mango or orange.
Bhavesh lives on the top floor. The person who likes mango lives on floor 3. Aditi lives immediately above Esha. The person who likes orange lives immediately below Bhavesh. Bhavesh does not like guava. The person who likes apple lives immediately below the person who likes mango. Chitra lives on a lower floor than Dinesh. Esha lives on an even-numbered floor.
How many people live between Chitra and Bhavesh?

  1. 2
  2. 1
  3. 4
  4. 3
Answer and explanation

Answer: D. 3

Explanation: Floors 1 to 5: Chitra (guava), Esha (apple), Aditi (mango), Dinesh (orange), Bhavesh (banana). Esha must be on floor 2 (floor 4 would put Aditi on the top floor), so Aditi is on 3; Dinesh must be above Chitra, so Dinesh is on 4 and Chitra on 1. Mango is on 3, apple on 2, orange on 4, and Bhavesh, not liking guava, likes banana. Esha, Aditi and Dinesh live between Chitra (floor 1) and Bhavesh (floor 5).
