Data Sufficiency question 21

Each question has two statements. Decide whether the data in the statements is sufficient to answer the question.
Question: Is the integer n divisible by 6?
I. n is divisible by 12.
II. n is divisible by 4.

  1. Statement I alone is sufficient
  2. Statement II alone is sufficient
  3. Both statements together are needed
  4. Both statements together are not sufficient
Answer and explanation

Answer: A. Statement I alone is sufficient

Explanation: From I, n = 12k = 6 × 2k, so n is divisible by 6: I alone answers it. II alone does not (4 is not divisible by 6, but 12 is).
